UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE

DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

THE QUEEN’S VETERINARY SCHOOL HOSPITAL

WEST CAMBRDIGE SITE

CLINICAL SPECIALIST IN SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY

£38,896.00 to £49,230.00

We are looking for a soft tissue surgeon to join our experienced small animal surgery team of four ECVS diplomates, led by Richard Whitelock, Director of Small Animal Surgery. This permanent position is available from 3 January 2017.

This is an opportunity to work in a well-equipped, multidisciplinary referral hospital, with a positive team spirit and a friendly working environment. The soft tissue caseload is varied and interesting, with a particular emphasis on oncological surgery, brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome and urology. Sophisticated facilities, including surgical laser and minimally invasive surgical equipment are available and an individual motivated to expand these areas of the service would be welcomed. Support with case management is available from within the team and from other services in the Department.

The role primarily involves the provision of clinical services within the hospital, alongside teaching and supervision of Senior Clinical Training Scholars, Junior Clinical Training Scholars and Students. An interest in research and innovation is encouraged as we have strong links with the newly developed Surgical Discovery Centre led by Professor Matthew Allen as well as other University of Cambridge Departments.

Applicants should have significant experience in a Small Animal Hospital environment, have attained or be eligible to sit the examination for the Diploma of the European or American College of Veterinary Surgery, and have a veterinary degree registerable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

In return we can offer a supportive and engaging environment, generous paid annual leave for full time employees of 6.6 weeks (33 days), plus public holidays, competitive staff benefits and services, including family friendly policies, numerous discounts on shopping, health care, financial services, and public transport. We also offer defined benefits pension schemes and tax-efficient bicycle, car lease and charity-giving schemes.  The position is eligible for a relocation package.
